The purpose of National Honors Society is “to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in students.” (NHS Handbook, 2015) Being a member of NHS is a great opportunity to be a leader at Grafton High School, participate in community service, & demonstrate academic excellence.
Induction into the National Honor Society is not a right, but a privilege. If chosen, you will be expected to take part in several school service activities and community projects as well as mandatory sponsor-assigned projects throughout the year. Attendance at monthly meetings is mandatory and there is a $10 yearly membership fee. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a stole to wear at graduation. National Honor Society members are also expected to represent the school and the community by their actions and words. There are by-laws that have to be followed and a code of ethics that is enforced.

This council is unknown to anyone besides the council members themselves, GHS Principal, and Ms. Wyatt. The chapter advisers, Ms. Wyatt & Mr. McCall, will conduct the selection process as non-voting members. The council will complete selections based on a point system for each section, so be sure to be as thorough as possible when filling out your application to ensure maximum amount of points. Once the selections are made, students will be notified on their acceptance or rejection by Ms. Wyatt. After acceptance, there will be an induction ceremony held for new members on a date TBD.
